Something’s Got to MOVE!

By Marianne Clyde

Has anyone ever told you that you can’t do something?

Have YOU ever told yourself that? And then you actually did it?

I had not been at our expat assignment long, when I began to slip into a bit of a depression. Feeling out of sorts. Feeling like I didn’t fit in. Unsure of all that I thought I knew. Missing my kids. Missing my very busy counseling practice. Getting used to another culture. I could go on, but you get it, right?

One thing I knew that would help get me out of my funk, was to move.

One of my new Japanese friends was a bit older that I, and a regular marathon runner.

I lived only a mile from the Imperial Palace, which had a 5K walking/running path around it.

Having never been a runner (I actually hated running), I began to get inspired by my friend. I started slow (It actually took 2 years to actually get to the point where I could run and entire marathon (another story for another day), but I had a plan.

I built a team: a group of other expats that might want to run at least part of the marathon, a masseuse, an acupuncturist and a personal trainer, a marathon training guide and a vision.

Long story short: I trained regularly, stuck to my plan and ultimately ran the entire 26.2 miles of the Kasumigaura Marathon. Yay me!

BUT I will always remember, that first time I ran the one mile to the Palace, continued around the 5 K (3 mi) around the Palace and finished the final mile, completing my FIRST 5 miles of continuous running. I burst through our apartment doors and announced to my husband, “I AM AMAZING!”

The invigorating, stimulating, exciting feeling that I had, somehow, blasted through some invisible barrier (created by myself) that only I could break through by simply doing it, actually inspired the name of my company, Isn’t She Amazing.

Based on the premise that I create my life, I control my emotions, I choose my thoughts and feelings and actions and by doing so, I can change my life into anything I want.

You can, too.

And that’s why I am here. To help other high level, smart, motivated women leaders to create the life of their dreams, breaking through all self imposed beliefs and barriers along the way.

No more settling for the “just okay, it will be fine” life. But living the #supernova life. Shining our brightest and, by doing so, inspiring others to do the same.

Action Step: Identify something in your life that needs to change. Choose one thing to do differently every day: your mindset, your activities, you words, where you spend your time, what thoughts you are allowing yourself to think. marianne@isntsheamazing.com Send me a message if you need help.
